I Am Not a Witch

A strange tale of magic and surrealism set in Zambia. Inspired by real stories of witchcraft accusations and Southern African witch camps which provide refuge to local women accused of witchcraft. A nine year old orphan girl, Shula, is accused of being a witch and given a choice of admitting that she is a witch or denying it and being transformed into a goat, which may then get eaten! The witch camp is a tourist destination and visitors arrive by bus to watch the “witches” ranting and raving to order. Shula becomes something of a local celebrity, one talk show host asks “What if she’s actually just a child?” and is met with stony silence by Shula’s protector.
